Baden-Württemberg is one of the safest regions in Germany. To ensure it stays that way, we were preparing for emergencies with a large-scale disaster protection exercise.

To establish more routine in handling emergencies.
To enhance safety in our region.

The disaster protection exercise “Magnitude 2024” was a collaborative EU project in which emergency responders simulated a 6.9 magnitude earthquake in the Karlsruhe metropolitan area from October 24–26, 2024.
The key focuses are:
Locating and rescuing trapped individuals.
Handling chemical accidents.
Ensuring water supply.
We practiced this to ensure that an emergency wouldn’t turn into a real crisis.
